77th Venice Film Festival Awards Found Its Owners

77th Venice Film Festival awards found their owners. This year the Golden Lion was won by Chloé Zhao by the Nomadland.

The 77th Venice Film Festival, held between 2-12 September this year, ended with this evening’s ceremony. This year’s winners have also been announced. Acclaimed films such as Nomadland, Never Gonna Snow Again, Pieces of a Woman, The World to Come, Wife of a Spy met with moviegoers in Venice, the first major film festival held after the pandemic. This year’s grand prize of the festival, the Golden Lion, was Nomadland by Chloé Zhao.

This year the jury chaired by Cate Blanchett evaluated the films in the Main Competition section. To Blanchett in the jury; Christian Petzold, who has made great films such as Phoenix and Transit, Joanna Hogg who made one of the most popular films of the past year with The Souvenir, Veronika Franz, director of acclaimed horror films such as Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge, French actress Ludivine Sagnier, Italian writer Nicola Lagioia and the festival was accompanied by Matt Dillon, who replaced Cristi Puiu, who had to leave jury duty shortly before the start.

Master director Claire Denis chaired the jury of Orizzonti, or Horizons, which is more commonly used outside of Italy. Denis was accompanied by Oskar Alegria, Francesca Comencini, Katriel Schory and Christine Vachon on the jury.

On the other hand, the awards found their owners yesterday in the side programs of the Venice Film Festival, Venice Days and Critics’ Week. In the Critics’ Week section, the winner of the grand prize was Ghosts by Azra Deniz Okyay. The Whaler Boy by Philipp Yuryev was the winner of the grand prize in Days of Venice.
